That awkward moment when two very, very separate parts of your multi-media experience come together, causing you to have a sudden flare-up of dizziness, claustrophobia, and overwhelming confusion.
According to this website, a Various-Artist compilation is tentatively destined for release on the 7th of September. I’m not usually first in line for compilation works, but there’s always that rare time in ones’ life when one is willing to go against ones’ habitual patterns, whether for the sake of satisfying a sense of primal curiosity, or simply in an effort to repair the gaping hole in the Ozone of ones’ life that the collab of, say, Disney and Visual Kei might have cause to effect.
I don’t usually, that is to say ever, use the words “Disney” and “Visual Kei” in the same sentence. This is so not ok on so many levels. But I need it.

In the event that they actually go through with this release and I am able to get my hands on it, I will spend the following months preparing myself psychologically to take one for the team. The only songs that made sense, if that was at all possible, were Kawamura Ryuuichi doing Beauty & The Beast, and Sadie’s This Is Halloween. They could have at least had the decency to do, like, Scar’s Song or something…
Are these songs going to be Japanese versions of the songs?
Because if they are in English . . . lulz overload . . . especially some of those Mary Poppins numbers.
That was the first thought that popped into my head when I was reviewing the tracklist– and honestly, I have no idea. Given that most Disney movies are dubbed (and dubbed very well) in Japanese, the chances of the songs being from the Japanese versions are somewhat likely.
If they are in English, I’m going to feel like I just got trolled by the Visual Kei industry at large.
I look forward to more of your posts on this matter but are you aware of YELLOW FRIED CHICKENZ single that was just announced a a few days ago, THE END OF THE DAY? Your thoughts if/when you get the chance.

Definitely looking forward to Kawamura Ryuuichi (he’s unconditionally excellent, and it seems fitting), Sadie, and THE KIDDIE, although I think all of the songs will be bizarre and fascinating to listen to. I’m trying to work out in my head how they’re going to pull off arranging these pieces, and it’s just…not…happening.

I was also wondering about whether the songs would be in Japanese or English…I think the latter would prove quite challenging for “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”. XD
In general though, I think they could have chosen a better selection of Disney songs. :/
I’m kind of stoked on it, in a wary, are you serious right now? sort of way. Although, I fully agree with you about the song selection. Maybe they’re the only songs they could get the rights to? I probably would’ve skipped Mary Poppins had it been my call…
They’ll school Disney, trust me. Although I’m not that confident, but I’ll be super confident if abingdon boys school was in the lineup. They’re 3-0 in schooling (or maybe just giving me a pleasant surprise) the original artist in their cover (Yes, I picked them over Buck-Tick, LUNA SEA, and Kuroyume).
For now, I’m placing my bets on Nightmare to pull off something decent, not because they have 2 songs and 2 chances, but I think they’re a good bunch. I mean, with the current lineup, I’m quite confident it’ll be at least something for our ears. I mean… ugh just look at that lineup! How can we go wrong with that (although some basketball team has shown that choking is possible with a good lineup)?

I would have been super confident if abingdon boys school was in the lineup as well, seeing as they’ve already proven their ability to take covering a song to the next (or several “next”s) level. Although this is strictly between you and I, I have to admit that I’d pick their covers over the originals as well…. But that’s strictly between us, right? That being said, and maybe it’s just me, I can’t really see this kind of project being….in…their…league?
I think the lineup looks good, the songs look well matched to the artists (I’ve seen some compilation works where the artists make sense, the songs make sense, but the way the two have been paired just don’t make sense at all)– the main hitch I can see is just that the songs are a little…strange. I’m trying to process in my head how they’re going to train the poor guy to pronounce “supercalifragilistic…”. That being said, had they picked the more obvious classics, I feel like there wouldn’t be much of a sense of challenge… With the odds presented, if the bands can’t pull off the songs, this album might be scarring…but if these bands can pull off those songs, then this album is going to be awesome, and my respect for the bands and their producers is going to be heightened.
Personally, it feels very weird that we’re all looking forward to this album. It’s even weirder that this album exists, or will exist, at all.
